  • Lunar Eclipse on Thursday April 25, 2013 – Astrological Significance and Viewing Times

The MoonLast year we had the good fortune of witnessing an impressive total lunar eclipse. This year the eclipse will be partial, but even a partial lunar eclipse is definitely a special and remarkable phenomenon: both in terms of what is possible to see at this time in the sky, and also in terms of the astrological implications of this occurrence.

On the 25th of April the earth’s shadow will “take a bite” out of the side of the moon.  The entire event will last approximately 4 hours, while the peak, during which we can witness Earth’s pronounced, round and clear shadow on the moon, will last for 27 minutes.

Each year there are two lunar eclipses, in one form of eclipse or another (sometimes they are almost undetectable), while a full lunar eclipse is more rare.

A lunar eclipse is a celebration.  This phenomenon in which the moon is suddenly covered in shadow (the earth’s shadow) – is a phenomena which many cultures worshipped, admired, and even feared.

A lunar eclipse has special astrological significance.

Where and When Will We Be Able to View the Eclipse?

The eclipse will be clearly visible in Eastern Europe, Africa, Central Asia and West Australia.  Those in Eastern South America will be able to see the lunar eclipse for the shortest amount of time, as the eclipse will already have begun at moonrise. In other areas, such as the United States, the eclipse will not be visible this time. The eclipse will occur between the hours 18:03 – 22:11 UT (Universal Time, which used to be called “Greenwich Mean Time”), and the peak of the eclipse, during which the earth’s shadow can be clearly seen, will be between the hours 19:54 – 20:11 UT.      The Astrological Significance of a Lunar Eclipse

The Moon links us with all of our past memories, starting from the childhood we experienced along with the emotional events that molded us, up to memories or experiences from previous lives to which we are still connected. These special points in time when the moon is covered by earth’s shadow, offer us rare moments –   sometimes lasting only a few minutes – during which we are not governed by our past; neither the recent nor the distant past.  At this special cosmic moment we are not governed by the “demons” or “dragons” that rule us, and we can therefore use the power of our consciousness to make a significant breakthrough in our personal development. It is important to be aware of this special time and, if possible, to use it to have a process going on between you and yourself wherein you can leave behind those aspects from your past that you no longer want, and instead, put into place new patterns that you create by your conscious intention.

This time the lunar eclipse occurs in the astrological realm of Abundance – and therefore the main realms within in which change can be made at this time are related to our health, how we perceive our body and our ability to remain balanced while juggling the tasks of daily life – very important areas indeed!
