  • Heading Towards the Fall Equinox – A Look at the Zodiac as a Calendar

Posted on September 15, 2013 by in articles, monthly update, More about Astrology, updates

UranusWhen people think of a calendar they usually think of a square page with numbers, but the round zodiac is actually a beautiful year long calendar.

A wheel has 360 degrees in it, and our planetary year has about the same amount of days – 365, so actually every degree in the wheel can represent a day of the year.

Strangely – the Egyptians believed that the year had 360 days, as a wheel’s degrees. They called the other 5 “extra” days,  “days out of time” and believed them to be extraordinary days in which they had celebrations for their gods.

As the planetary year – so is the astrological wheel divided by the four seasons.

The wheel begins in spring, and more exactly – on the spring equinox, March 21st, which is the first day of spring in the north hemisphere, the day in which the hours of light are equal to the hours of dark, and also the first day of the first astrological sign – Aries. Aries is followed by the two other signs of spring – Taurus and Gemini and together they complete the 3 months, or about 90 days of spring, ending at the longest day of the year, with the most hours of light – June 21th, which is the turning point from Gemini to Cancer and from spring to summer. The summer signs are Cancer, Leo and Virgo. Another 90 days or so, a quarter of the year, ending at the autumn equinox of September 21st.

The fall signs are Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius, ending on the shortest day of the year – with the most hours of dark, on December 21st. And the winter signs are Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, ending, again, on the spring equinox.

3 months for every one of the four seasons, together creating 12 months.

So – we are now heading towards the fall’s equilibrium day.

A time where powers of “dark” and powers of “light” are equal. There is equality between known and unknown, conscious and subconscious, Sun and Moon…

We are also heading towards the turning point from summer to fall…

From a time of ripeness and maturity we are heading towards a time of shedding.

From a season controlled by glorious and bright Leo, we’re heading towards time controlled by deeply spiritual Scorpio (Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius and Taurus are the fixed and main signs of each season).

Realizing all of the above  can help us better understand the times we are in, and allow us to better plan our moves.

    • Note – that for people living in the South Hemisphere it is actually the spring equinox…
